Intensive classroom studies.
Thirty hours are spent each week in intensive
classroom language studies. Classes are provided on 6 to 9 skill levels
from absolute beginner
through advanced. Your level of hebrew is assessed by our staff, then you start at your present level and progress from
there.
Bible Class
Unique methods in second language teaching are employed to provide
you with the skills needed to converse in modern Hebrew. You start
speaking the language from your very first day in class. As you progress
to the more advanced levels, greater emphasis is placed on perfecting
your use of grammar and on developing your reading skills.
Music and dance lessons
We call our music lessons "Hebrew in song" and our dance
lessons "Hebrew with your feet". In these special classes,
you won't just be singing and dancing. You'll be joining with your
fellow classmates in one or more avenue of language acquisition. At
the same time, you'll be learning more about Jewish and Israeli culture
and heritage.
Lectures
Several lectures are presented in Hebrew, English, Spanish and French.
These span a broad range of subjects such as Jewish and Israeli history,
Judaism,
folklore, current affairs.
Special activities
You'll find many varied activities to enhance your learning experience.
Various formal and informal activities are included as opportunities
arise. Anyone who wishes can join Ulpan Akiva's choir. Those who
play musical instruments are encouraged to bring them. Bible studies
in English are part of the program.
Discos and parties are sometimes
held in the "Green Beach Club".
Shabbats and Jewish Festivals
We begin our traditional Shabbats by gathering together for candle
lighting and a time of getting to know our Shabbat guests. Our festive
meals are preceded and followed by the traditional blessings and
prayers. For those who wish to attend Shabbat services, the synagogue
in the adjoining community of Ramat Poleg is just a short walk. Our
Shabbat guests present lectures on appropriate subjects.
The Jewish festivals are always special at Ulpan
Akiva. An instructional Seder prior to Pesach (Passover) teaches
the lessons of this special season.
